Stones Throw Video Contest

This year is our 15 year anniversary and I wanted to do something special, something that involves the fans directly. Sitting in my hotel room in Sydney the day after a great show in terms of turnout and audience participation, I was reminded that we have the best, most loyal fans in the world.

Looking back on the 15 years of the label, a lot of my favorite songs don’t have a video. We generally only do one video per artist album and in some cases, we didn’t do any (Donuts). There’s been a lot of fan videos done for Stones Throw artists for a while now and although there’s been a few duds, there’s been jems too. The Quasimoto ”Shadows of Tomorrow” video was so good, we put it on our DVD. Using all found-footage, it was more interesting than most videos on that DVD that featured the artist. Thankfully the director/editor of that one reached out and identified himself as Duey FM and he’s been making videos for Mad Decent and others ever since.

Got me to thinking ...

CONTEST: MAKE YOUR OWN VIDEO FOR STONES THROW. The rules are simple. Pick any song from Stones Throw’s catalog. Edit your own video using any footage you want, upload it to Vimeo.com, and add it to our Vimeo group:
http://vimeo.com/groups/stonesthrow15

You can do anything you like as long as it's CREATIVE - shoot new footage, animation, found footage, or combination. Our deadline is July 1, 2011.

30 after that, I’ll announce the winner, taking into consideration view count, comments, and most importantly which video I like best. Semi-finalists will get a $200 credit to be used on stonesthrow.com and the winner will get a $1000 check and a chance to direct an upcoming video for the label.

Capture the best moment of an extraordinary, imaginary party.

Capture the best moment of an extraordinary, imaginary party.

How do you throw an extraordinary party for the men who have seen everything? It should exude real style, sophistication and offers quirky, fun surprises that will make it memorable. Most importantly: avoid clichés.

Imagine that you have been invited to a luxury celebration with the most stylish, glamorous and ambitious men in the world, such as Robert Pattinson, Kanye West and Cristiano Ronaldo. The party is organized by Ciroc, luxury vodka from France, born with inherent decadence and style.

Brief

Visualize an extraordinary celebration with the most stylish people.

In your image, do not show the celebrities we mentioned but show us why this celebration is extraordinary enough to feature the most stylish, sophisticated, elegant and ambitious people in the world and what makes it more fun, more surprising and exclusive than other parties.

You might find inspiration from fashion show, movie, drama or any extraordinary event you have seen. You can also introduce some elements outside luxury and fashion category into your work, e.g. art, architecture; etc.

Guidelines

- Do not add a tagline or text to your image.

- Include an explanation with your image that explains why you think this is the best representation of this extraordinary Ciroc party.

- Your party idea should be something that can still happen in the real world (no “party on the moon”).

- Language: English.

- This is a luxury brand. Do not make it look cheap. Use your artistic sense to produce a beautiful and high quality visual.

- Ciroc bottle and logo need to be featured in your work, please download the image here. Other guideline requested by Diageo Marketing Code, for more information, please visit: http://www.drinkiq.com/en-row/Documents/diageo-marketing-code.pdf

- Please do not portray any character whose age is below 25 y/o.

- Do not portray drinking while someone should focus 100% on a potentially dangerous activity like driving a car, a motorcycle, operating machinery; etc.

- If you portray people drinking, do not show them drinking shots, do “bottom-up” or being drunk.

- In your story drinking should not help any character being more sexually attractive.

- In your story it’s not drinking that helps the protagonist socialize better, when they socialize, drinking is only a part of it, not the reason why.

- Well, you know alcohol is not an energy drink. It cannot give you more strength or transform you into any kind of superhero, or increase your performance.

- Do not depict people smoking while drinking.
